Skip the canned soup version and try this fresh take on a holiday classic. Tender green beans are baked in a rich, homemade mushroom cream sauce and topped with real, crispy fried shallots.

Main Ingredients
  • Sauce: 2 cups heavy cream 2 tbsp flour, 1 stick (8 tbsp) butter, 3 garlic cloves, 8oz mushrooms
  • Veg: 1 lb green beans trimmed, 3.5oz shallots (sliced)

  • Saucepan
  • Frying pan

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Whisk cream, flour, butter, and garlic. Simmer 5 mins. Add mushrooms and simmer 15 mins.
  2. Blanch green beans for 1 min, then shock in ice water.
  3. Fry sliced shallots in oil until golden and crisp.
  4. Mix beans and sauce in a baking dish. Top with fried shallots.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) for 30-35 mins.
