Creamy Vanilla Porridge

A warm bowl of creamy oatmeal provides a comforting start to any morning. This simple stovetop method combines rolled oats with milk, a splash of vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon for a naturally sweet base. Cooking the oats slowly allows them to absorb the liquid fully, creating a rich and tender texture. It makes an excellent everyday breakfast that you can easily customize. Top your bowl with fresh fruit, toasted nuts, or a drizzle of maple syrup to suit your taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 litre dairy or non-dairy milk
  • 500ml water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of ground cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 200g porridge oats

Instructions

  1. 1Combine the milk, water, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt in a large saucepan. Place the pan over medium heat and bring the liquid to a slow boil.
  2. 2Stir the porridge oats into the boiling liquid. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and the mixture thickens.
  3. 3Remove the saucepan from the heat and ladle the hot oatmeal into individual serving bowls.

Notes

  • Customize your bowl by adding fresh fruit, toasted nuts, or a drizzle of honey before serving.
