Bittersweet Mezcal Cocktail

Smoky, herbal, and perfectly bittersweet, this mezcal cocktail balances deep roasted agave notes with bright botanical liqueurs. You'll love how the Yellow Chartreuse and Averna Amaro blend seamlessly, while a savory pinch of sea salt ties everything together. It's a sophisticated drink that works beautifully before dinner or as a complex nightcap. A large ice cube keeps things chilled, slowly opening up those layered citrus flavors as you sip.

Ingredients

  • 1½ OZ. MEZCAL
  • 1 OZ. YELLOW CHARTREUSE
  • ¾ OZ. AVERNA AMARO
  • 1 LIME TWIST, FOR GARNISH
  • PINCH OF SEA SALT, FOR GARNISH

Instructions

  1. 1Pour the mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, and Averna Amaro into a rocks glass over a single large ice cube. Stir the mixture gently until it's thoroughly chilled. This properly dilutes the spirits without watering them down too fast.
  2. 2Express the oils from the lime twist over the drink and drop it into the glass. Finish with a small pinch of sea salt on top.

Notes

  • Ice: Use a single large ice cube if possible. It melts slower, keeping your drink cold without over-diluting the complex flavors.
  • Garnish: If you don't have a lime twist, an orange or grapefruit peel works beautifully with the smoky mezcal.
