Classic Hamburger BBQ

Classic Hamburger BBQ

This classic hamburger barbecue is a sweet and tangy loose meat sandwich that comes together in a single skillet. Ground beef simmers in a homemade sauce of ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard to create a rich, savory filling. It is a quick and comforting option for busy weeknights or casual weekend gatherings. Spoon the warm beef over soft split buns and top with a slice of cheese for a satisfying, messy bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • Optional: 1/2 c. onion, chopped
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 3 to 4 T. brown sugar, packed
  • 2 T. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T. water
  • 1 T. white vinegar
  • 1 T. mustard
  • 8 hamburger buns, split
  • Optional: 8 slices cheese

Instructions

  1. 1Place a skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef along with the chopped onion until the meat is fully browned. Drain off any excess fat, then mix the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, water, white vinegar, and mustard in a separate small bowl.
  2. 2Stir the sauce ingredients until completely smooth, then pour the mixture directly over the cooked beef. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer and let it cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring every so often to prevent sticking.
  3. 3Remove the skillet from the heat and prepare the split hamburger buns for serving. Portion the hot barbecue beef evenly among the buns to create eight hearty sandwiches.
  4. 4Add a slice of cheese to each sandwich while the meat is still hot so it melts slightly. Serve these casual sandwiches immediately at your next fall gathering or family party.
