Fairy Butter Curls

Fairy Butter Curls

Fairy butter is a delicate, sweetened compound butter that brings a touch of magic to breakfast and brunch. Whipped with maple sugar and pure vanilla extract, it offers a rich, warm flavor profile that melts beautifully over warm baked goods. Forming the butter into a tight roll allows you to shave it into elegant curls or grate it directly over your food. Serve these sweet ribbons over fresh sourdough French toast, warm scones, or a stack of weekend pancakes. The subtle crunch of maple sugar and the aromatic vanilla make every bite feel like a special occasion.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 tablespoons maple sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. 1Beat the softened butter together with the maple sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and well combined. Transfer the sweetened butter into the bottom corner of a resealable plastic bag and shape it tightly into a cylindrical log.
  2. 2Roll the plastic bag tightly around the butter log while pushing out all the excess air. Seal the bag completely and place it in the refrigerator or freezer until firm.
  3. 3Place a small glass or metal bowl in the refrigerator to cool before you begin curling. Take the firm butter log out of the cold storage and quickly peel back the plastic wrapping.
  4. 4Drag a sharp vegetable peeler firmly down the length of the butter log to create thin, curling ribbons. Drop each curled piece immediately into your cold bowl so they hold their shape.
  5. 5Wrap the bowl of finished butter curls tightly and keep them cold until you are ready to serve.
