Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cornmeal
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. 1Heat the oven to 425°F and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. 2Whisk the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl. Beat the milk, melted butter, and egg in a separate small bowl until fully combined.
  3. 3Pour the wet egg mixture into the dry flour mixture. Stir everything together just until the flour is moistened, leaving the batter slightly lumpy.
  4. 4Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the top turns golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Slice the baked cornbread into nine squares.
