Mexican Mojito

Sweet garden mint and tart lime juice muddle together to build the aromatic base of this bright cocktail. By swapping traditional rum for silver tequila, you'll give a classic Cuban drink an earthy agave twist. A vigorous shake with ice chills the mixture perfectly, while a splash of club soda and lemon-lime soda brings the fizz. It's a wildly refreshing option for warm afternoons or your next weekend gathering.

Ingredients

  • 4 mint sprigs
  • 1 tbsp (12 g) sugar
  • 1 lime, quartered
  • 6 oz (170 ml) ice cubes
  • 1½ oz (45 ml) silver tequila (I recommend Herradura Silver)
  • 2 oz (57 ml) club soda
  • 1 oz (28 ml) lemon-lime soda

Instructions

  1. 1Place the mint sprigs and sugar into a large mixing glass or cocktail shaker. Squeeze the juice from 3 of the lime wedges directly into the glass, then muddle everything together to release the mint oils.
  2. 2Add the ice cubes and silver tequila to the shaker, then cover it tightly. Shake the glass vigorously 12 to 15 times to chill the drink, then pour the entire mixture into a tall glass.
  3. 3Slowly pour the club soda and lemon-lime soda into the glass. Finish the drink with a fresh sprig of mint.

Notes

  • Ingredient: For the cleanest flavor, use a high-quality 100% agave silver (blanco) tequila.
  • Technique: Press the mint gently when muddling. Over-muddling can tear the leaves and release bitter flavors.
  • Swap: If you don't have lemon-lime soda, use extra club soda and a splash of simple syrup instead.
