Mexican Mojito

Mexican Mojito

A classic Cuban cocktail gets a bright agave twist by swapping traditional rum for silver tequila. Fresh mint and lime juice muddle together with sugar to create a sweet, aromatic base. A vigorous shake with ice chills the mixture before a splash of club soda and lemon-lime soda adds the perfect amount of fizz. It is an incredibly refreshing drink for warm summer afternoons when garden mint is growing wild.

Ingredients

  • 4 mint sprigs
  • 1 tbsp (12 g) sugar
  • 1 lime, quartered
  • 6 oz (170 ml) ice cubes
  • 1½ oz (45 ml) silver tequila (I recommend Herradura Silver)
  • 2 oz (57 ml) club soda
  • 1 oz (28 ml) lemon-lime soda

Instructions

  1. 1Drop the mint sprigs and sugar into a cocktail shaker or large mixing glass. Squeeze the juice from three lime wedges directly into the glass, then muddle everything together to release the mint oils.
  2. 2Toss in the ice cubes and pour the silver tequila over the muddled base. Seal the shaker tightly and shake vigorously about a dozen times, then pour the entire mixture into a tall glass.
  3. 3Top the glass slowly with the club soda and lemon-lime soda. Finish the drink with a fresh sprig of mint for garnish.
