Red Wine Sangria with Citrus and Nectarines

Sweet nectarines, crisp cucumber, and bright citrus mingle in this refreshing batch cocktail. The combination of red wine, brandy, and fresh orange juice creates a rich base that absorbs the fruit flavors as it chills. It's a fantastic option for warm weather gatherings since you can prepare most of it ahead of time. A splash of chilled seltzer right before serving gives it a light, bubbly finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (1½ liters) red wine
  • 1½ cups fresh orange juice
  • cup brandy
  • cup sugar
  • 2 nectarines, pitted and cut into wedges
  • 1 orange, cut in half, then sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 Kirby (pickling) cucumber, sliced
  • 3 cups seltzer or club soda, chilled

Instructions

  1. 1Mix the red wine, fresh orange juice, brandy, and sugar in a large pitcher. Stir continuously until the sugar completely dissolves.
  2. 2Add the sliced nectarines, orange, lemon, and cucumber to the liquid. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or up to overnight. This resting time is essential for the fruit to infuse the wine.
  3. 3Remove the pitcher from the refrigerator just before serving and gently stir in the chilled seltzer or club soda.
  4. 4Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the sangria over the top. Scoop a few pieces of the soaked fruit into each glass.

Notes

  • Make ahead: Prepare the sangria through the chilling stage and transport it in a tightly covered pitcher. Bring the seltzer in its original bottle and stir it in right before serving.
